BEHIND THE DESIGN

The Inspiration

The first time I visited Glasgow's Kelvingrove Museum, I was transfixed by Margaret Macdonald's series of painted hessian Gesso panels. The title of the panel, Willowwood, is taken from a sonnet by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and was commissioned by Miss Kate Cranston for the Salon de Luxe, Willow Tea Rooms. Maconald often added glass beads; in our jewellery, these are substituted with garnet and peridot gemstones.
